Looking Down the Road at the China/North Korea Enigma

2pm EDT / 7pm BST

Mao Tse-tung famously said China and the DPRK were “as close as lips and teeth.” Is that still the case? Always on the minds of DPRK officials is the goal of having more economic (and political?) independence from China. In economic vitality and growth, China has more in common with South Korea than with the North. China and the DPRK are an odd couple, although they do share the important goal of not wanting a unified Korean Peninsula allied with the U.S. The question then is which parts of this complex relationship are in flux and how might China and the DPRK look to each other in 10 or 15 years?

Where is the real threat? Greenland or the U.S.-Russian border separated by less than 3 miles of water. Telling images from Canada's Simons Foundation and JoAnn Kaningkok from Alaska's Little Diomede island. @JoffeBooks

In an increasingly dangerous world, whose side is Japan on? Who controls this staunch American ally and has it ever dealt with its lethal crime empires? @JoffeBooks @MickeyCreative @severnhouse https://bit.ly/4sNzNX7

What is Moscow doing while Washington draws up plans to take control of Greenland? Far to its East, Russia shares a disputed border with the United States. https://bit.ly/3NEtSmV @JoffeBooks @uafairbanks @adndotcom
