Frances Evesham’s advice to those thinking of retiring is ‘to do something you truly love, whether it's travel, growing orchids or painting - the days just fly past." So, after stopping work as a speech therapist after thirty years, Frances tried her hand at something she really loved, and had been nagging her for years. "I thought I'd get to put my feet up when I retired, but I was wrong,” she says. She started writing mystery and crime and is now a best-selling author. She really loves it, saying "It takes over your life so that you forget aches and pains, worries and regrets as you live in your make-believe world. I feel 20 years younger and bursting with energy.” She has created the hugely success Exham-on-Sea Murder Mystery series which began one day when she was walking on a peaceful Somerset beach and discovered a unique nine-legged Victorian lighthouse. “My first Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, Murder at the Lighthouse, was born,” she says.
She then expanded her portfolio to the Ham Hill Murder Mystery series and will be discussing A Harvest Murder, set in Lower Hembrow, an idyllic village nestled beneath Ham Hill in Somerset. The villagers are preparing to enjoy the autumn traditions of the rural English countryside until Joe Trevillion, a curmudgeonly local farmer and the father of six children, vanishes.
