Join Humphrey Hawksley in conversation with Richard Cross on trauma responsive practice. A registered psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience, Richard specialises in relational approaches to address attachment, trauma, and dissociation. His early career focused on developing therapeutic programmes within correctional settings, piloting innovative violence reduction and rehabilitation models democratic therapeutic communities for high-risk, life-sentenced offenders.

A pioneer of trauma-informed practice in the UK, Richard worked with Sandra Bloom in 2004 to introduce the Sanctuary Model. He has since developed Attachment and Trauma-Informed Care; a comprehensive model now implemented across multiple residential child care settings.

Richard continues to lead in clinical innovation and organisational development, providing consultancy, training, and supervision to professionals and organisations. He directs clinical teams at Five Rivers Child Care and is a Fellow and Faculty member of the International Society for Trauma and Dissociation, a trustee of the Bowlby Centre, and an active trainer of psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists.

The talk will include conversations in relation to the following themes:

  • The principles and primary task of trauma responsive practice - what it is and what it is not.
  • Supporting practitioners to ameliorate and recover from the impact of vicarious trauma.
  • Identifying and overcoming systemic obstacles to trauma responsive care.
  • Holding, containing and enabling leadership in trauma responsive aspiring organisations.

Who is this talk for?

This talk is for anyone with an interest in children’s wellbeing and development and supporting recovery from trauma. It will be of particular interest for professionals working in residential child care and foster care and those involved in social work, education, therapy and counselling.

Attendees of the live event will also be able to submit questions to Richard throughout the talk.

🌍 The Global South isn’t knocking on the door of power. It is redrawing the blueprint. From BRICS to climate finance, AU in the G20 to new alliances, it’s shifting from rule taker to rule maker. The question: justice, or just new hierarchies? 🎥 (link below)

“It’s one of the most remote places on Earth.”

After last nights summit, all eyes have been on Alaska. Its Cold War border with Russia - two small islands called Big and Little Diomede - while being remote, is like "Checkpoint Charlie" for individuals there, says @HumphreyHawk
