For a reason unknown any human brain, an algorithm driven by artificial intelligence has put my US-Russia border thriller Man on Ice on sale for just $2.87 on Amazon Kindle, a great winter bargain for all to buy. Therefore I offer this photograph of Little Diomede and Tribal Council member Robert Soolook with a nephew. The island across the water is Russia’s Ratmanov meaning Tomorrow Island because the International Date Line runs between the two. Americans call it Big Diomede. It is a military base. The orange wind sock on Little Diomede is for the helicopter which flies in twice a week, weather permitting. The dark green structure used to be an outpost for the Alaska National Guard tasked to protect this outer edge of American territory. It was shut down after the Cold War. At the closest point where the United States comes face to face with Russia, there is now no government presence. And no flags anywhere.
