United States’ interventions into Afghanistan, then Iraq and Vietnam, then Cambodia have much common ground. The opening of second fronts created disaster that leads to the very basest of human cruelty. The similarities between the Khmer Rouge and what we know of ISIS are chilling. Each is more brutal that the movements from which they were spawned. Each uses myths of bygone eras as justification. Each is a blueprint for totalitarian oppression. The lesson (as learned, too, by Napoleon, then Hitler with their attempts on Moscow):- Beware the second front.
