Global food giant Nestle says it has taken a major step to end child labour on cocoa farms supplying its factories. The firm, one of the world’s largest chocolate producers, says it is going to work with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) on tackling the problem. The FLA is set to examine Nestle’s cocoa supply chains in Ivory Coast in January, the firm said in a statement. Critics ask why it has taken Nestle so long to act if it knew children were involved in its cocoa production.

The irony of Egypt — the military wants elections; the democracy activists do not.

Following on Greece and Italy’s choice of unelected technocrats to lead government, Egypt has done the same bringing in a etchnocrat to replace a politician and prime minister. One of the first reactions — the EU has officially welcomed Italy back to the top table.

President Obama’s announcement to shift America’s foreign policy focus from the Middle East to the Pacific, came with plans to deploy US marines to Australia.Â
Writing in the FT, editor Lionel Barber says:- However the tripwire defence in Australia is dressed up, it is aimed squarely at China……Historians will look back and ask whether America’s re-engagement in the Pacific in November 2011 marked the moment when tensions with China, the superpower in waiting, escalated irreversibly.

Well just read the book and I have to say its impressive. A ww3 happening waged by all sides who at first are unwilling to fight then get drawn by events out of their control. Great stuff, easy to follow writing.
5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t put it down, October 24, 2011
Read this novel for the 1st time 8 years after it was published, but it seemed like today’s world. That’s the mark of a prophetic (or lucky) author. This novel is a good read, interesting from the first to the last page, and I lost sleep finishing it. Enjoyed the character development, issue and conflict development were first rate. I could see it happening as this author wrote it; nice job. Plausible plot. Left me wanting another few chapters.

All works of this nature contain errors to be sure.
Remember its fiction.
On the other hand this author has written a book I for one simply could not put down.
IMHO read this and gain some insight into the current state of global thought.
Remember that whatever may be wrong in this world today. there is a lot that is good. Most of this was bought at great expense in lives. by the armed forces of the USA in the early and mid parts of the 20th century.
How quickly we forget.

The US and Australia are increasing military strength in Asia-Pacific to offset influence of China. While the official response from the Chinese government is muted, The Global Times, a newspaper produced by the Communist Party-controlled People’s Daily group, has been far more blunt.
If “Australia uses its military bases to help the US harm Chinese interests, then Australia itself will be caught in the crossfire”.
And Luo Yuan, a senior officer at the People’s Liberation Army’s Academy of Military Sciences said that while neither the US or China wanted to start a war, “if China’s core interests such as its sovereignty, national security and unity are intruded on, a military conflict will be unavoidable”.

Having spoken about the shift of strategic, political and economic gravity moving to Asia, President Obama heads for Australia to announce a stepping up of US military activities in the region. Fifty per cent of world trade goes through the South China Sea that China claims as its own.  Both America and India are moving to protect.Â

Wall Street Journal:-
The Obama administration will double-down on the Asia-Pacific region, expanding its economic, military and diplomatic activity in the region to mirror the international system the U.S. built across the Atlantic after World War II, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that in the 21st century, the world’s strategic and economic center of gravity will be the Asia-Pacific, from the Indian subcontinent to the western shores of the Americas,” she said in a speech in Hawaii.

Slowly they are speaking out …. Ken Costa, former chairman of UBS Europe writing in the Sunday Telegraph:
“For some time ,and particularly during the exuberant irrationality of the last few decades, the market economy has shifted from its moral foundations with disastrous consequences.”Â
