Humphrey, congratulations on a stunning and highly moving piece of television journalism that accurately reflects the hopelessness of life in present day Sierra Leone. Since the end of the civil war millions, if not billions of pounds of aid have been pumped into the country and still the hospitals are lacking even the most basic of drugs. In spite of all the diplomatic waffle it's left to someone like you to get off their backside, go out into the bush and ask the question why! In your very balanced piece you perhaps shied away slightly from he real reason for those empty shelves - corruption on a massive scale. It would have been interesting to watch the squirming back in Freetown had any government minister been pushed for an answer as to what they supposed the problem might be. Please consider returning to do an extended piece on the problems in Sierra Leone and in doing so you will give a voice to 5 million people who are suffering in silence.

Humphrey, the life of a journalist/author is a complex one, and you have shone a light on an aspect of Greene I hadn't considered. Facts and impressions filtered by experience...the platform of tacit knowledge, or at the least, tacit understanding. There is great value in 'reseeing' and 'rehearing' the context of another writer's experience. Thanks for the trip. I'd like to meet Mickey.

25 minutes are to short for your report. The idea of "before and now" I have been applying for many years now, and agree with you that Asia made a better job of it. Are there any ideas and signs that Africa can shake off the past?
